the empire state building goes green… really?
today’s news stated that the empire state building is going to go green. its going to save millions each year. blah blah blah… if your interested in reading the whole articles here it is.
this is all good and dandy.. but the bottom line is that they are going to spend USD $500 million to “make the building green” and only save USD $4.4 million a year. so that’s going to take about 113 years to cover up the USD $500 million. these are all very rough calculations. the article does not talk about the cost of disposing of all the old appliances and fittings etc… that will come out of the building.
this just looks like a HUGE publicity stunt to use the buzz word of going green. i mean if you really want to do somethign to benifit the environment, why dont you take that USD $500, 000, 000 and do something meaningful, like plant a rain forest, or help save an animal speciece that is going extinct, or something like that. Feed some starving children in Africa and Asia.

Comments: 1 Comment so far. Your Next
have you ever wondered just how much fat and grease is in those delicious burgers your eating?
well i came across this video just now that gives us a tiny little glimpse into how much grease is present by creating an art masterpiece using just burgers. that’s right, you do not have to go back and read that sentence again. its a painting created with grease. you could call it grease art if you want. all created with only 14 burgers!
Phil Hansen paints the Mona Greasa with burger grease.
if you just ate 14 burgers, you could have a mona lisa in your stomach!
think about it…

[news] Monkeys Floss. Do you?
Comments: Go ahead. Your first.
BBC reported today on a very interesting article that looks into how female monkeys in Thailand tech their young. Teaching techniques on using tools properly has always been an activity carried out only by humans, Professor Nobuo Masataka of Kyoto University told the AFP news agency.
However these female monkeys have been observed flossing their teeth using human hair in the same way that we humans floss our own teeth. furthermore, researches from Japan also noticed that the mothers spend double the amount of time flossing when they were being watched by their infants. This suggests that they were deliberately teaching their young how to floss.

WOW.. This is really cool. monkeys can teach their young how to do things. What is even cooler is that they FLOSS. I mean how many humans floss?????

does Phelps deserve the criticism that he is receiving?
Comments: 4 people have voiced their opinion. What do YOU think?
shame on you big time media and everyone else. picking on a 23 year old for a mistake that he has already apologized for. i mean seriously. lets look at the message your sending out to other upcoming young folks that have the potential to shine in their selected area. i mean lets take me. i’m not saying that i smoke pot, but if i had the potential to become a fantastic basket ball player. i’m going to start thinking twice if its worth it. do i really want all of you [media types] poking your noses into my business?
i’m betting that a lot of the people out there right now, criticizing Phelps has also smoked some marijuana at some point in their life.
its part of growing up. let the kid experience life and grow up. he seems to have a solid grounding and just because he smoked pot once does not mean he is a pot head. it just means he is finding his way as all kids do, and that means learning things for themselves.
please don’t get me wrong, i am in no way saying that what he did was right. all i’m saying is that by putting all this pressure on him your paving the way to failure. its the same reason that most kid star actors end up as washed up druggies. its because of all the pressure put on them. lay off.. and let the kid grow up as a regular person.
don’t you have better things to report on? you as the media are reporting on this story because you say he is a role model and on the moral issue and the message he is giving out to his fans. what about your[collective media] moral issues? i mean after all all your doing is creating a story out of nothing to fatten your wallets. i find that quite hypocritical.
things i learnt in transit
so here i am in London at the London Heathrow airport. the last time i flew through here, i had the most atrocious experience ever. i had 3 hours to catch my connection and spent more than 2 of of those 3 hours in the security line. in that respect the security this time around was a breeze. there was no one ahead of me and i went right through. on the flip side, i have 12 hours to kill at the airport here. for the last 6 hours or so i’ve been seated here in front of the HMV (a music) store and gone from taking naps to observing the people around me, and getting some work done.
so what have a learn from all this?
1. the police here love to browse the latest CD’s at the music store. every hour or so two police officers passing by will pop in and spend about 15 minutes or so browsing though the shelves and then leave without purchasing anything. they also like checking out the latest gadgets at Dixons (an electronics store) right next door.
2. Michael Jackson is very much alive in this part of the world. i’ve listened to the store play a marathon of his hits at least 3 times over with a speckling of some rap songs here and there. took me down memory lane as well. you do not realize just how many songs jackson has. more so, how many of them are number one hits. enough hits to play for hours it seems. quite an accomplishment for any artist.
3. it’s quite common to see 5 year old girls wearing purple velvet dresses with fancy pea coats walking around with their mums who are equally peacocked out themselves.
4. the word “Gentleman” is still pretty much part of the English vocabulary and is very much used in everyday chatter here. eg: talking on the walkie talkie “Can you hold the gate a few more minutes? I just passed another gentleman heading over to catch his flight” (Said with a thick british accent)
5. the Audi a8 is one sexy beast of a car.
6. there are as many airport staff talking in Hindi as there as talking in English.
7. i’ve hardly seen any obese people the whole time i’ve been here.
8. kids wearing those jeans that look like they are going to fall off at any moment actually look fitted for some reason. (they still look like they are going to fall off at any moment)
9. the older gents are much more adventurous with their mustaches. i saw some that were just plain CRAZY…
10. i have yet to see an overweight air hostess walk pass me.

“It is believed that Shakespeare was 46 around the time that the King James Version of the Bible was written. In Psalms 46, the 46th word from the first word is shake and the 46th word from the last word is spear.”

i got angry with my front door
Comments: 3 people have voiced their opinion. What do YOU think?
technology is a wonderful thing. it makes all our lives easier than it used to me, but it boggles the mind that sometimes it is implemented half way through, and that really sucks.
i have a routine, i walk towards my car, press the unlock, listen to the reassuring click sound that tells me the car has been unlocked and i open the door and get in. same when i get down from the car. i click the car and wait to hear it click back to know the door is locked and we are all good.

today morning i had my hands full of stuff and was a bit preoccupied when i ran out of the apartment, closed the front door and locked it. dammit, it did not lock; so i tried it again. still unlocked. i was starting to get annoyed at the door. why was it not locking itself. after staring daggers at the poor door for a few seconds it struck me that this was my apartment front door not my car door. thats why it was not clicking back at me when i clicked on the lock button. DUH!
i proceeded to sheepishly put the door key into the lock, turn the key locking the door, looked both to my left and right to make sure non of my neighbors had witnessed this very embarrassing moment of me clicking my front door and headed to my car which responded much better and as expected to my unlock clicks than my front door had.
this got me thinking. why don’t they have the same mechanism for buildings that they have for automobiles. its a very useful technology that can be used in many different area’s. why was its implementation stopped at just automobiles?
am i the only one this has happened to? i would love to hear if anyone of you have experiences something similar.

I have a dream is now yes we can

in 1963, in front of the Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke the words that he is probably most famous for. “I Have a Dream”
today, that speech came into realization as President Elect, Mr. Barack Obama gave his acceptance speech in Chicago. i think the words of “I have a dream” have now been transformed into the phrase “YES WE CAN“. the dream has finally been realized.
this is enormous for all youth of color. it gives great hope to everyone that if you believe in something hard enough you can do it. yes you can!
i think this will also give black people and all people of color a much more stable identity for themselves. it gives them a new light in which to look at themselves in. i think we will start to see a new wave of youths of color. a generation of youth who will take their future more seriously and know that they can indeed achieve anything they want and that phrase of “Believe in yourself” is not just hollow advice that does not mean anything.
here’s to a new era both in the United States of America as well as in the rest of the world.
