Yup, You read that right. The United States of America now has a National Bookstore Day.

There used to be a time (not too long ago) were having a day named after you or after a particular purpose actually meant something (eg: Martin Luther King Day, Veterans Day, etc…).These days of meaning seem to have seen their last light of day.

It seems as if every day is some sort of obscure day, or every week is some sort of week or every month is some sort of month.

Its at a point where its starting to get annoying. I mean, seriously. Give a dude a chance. I’m still trying to get leave to celebrate Chinchilla day.

I digress.. back to books. I love them. I love to sit down and have a nice read. You know actually thumb through the pages of a real book instead of scrolling through pages on a monitor.

Books are expensive to keep buying and once you have bought a book, how many times do you really read it? I have a bunch of books and at most i’ve read a book 2 times. Renting is totally the way to go.

I wrote about a cool new startup called Rentalic a little while ago. Well this is perfect. People with a whole bunch of books can list their entire library out on Rentalic and rent them out to other users.

To visit Rentlic go to www.rentalic.com

We need a national rent your books out day!

i’m assuming that everyone has heard katy perry’s song i kissed a girl. i mean you cant NOT have heard it. they play it every 5 minutes on the radio. well its a nice catchy song and all but it needed a spoof. a version of the song that a guy could sing, so i scratched my head for a bit and came up with the following. i think its quite good.

I Kissed A Girl [spoof] – the curious monkey

This was never the way I planned
Not my intention
I got so brave, drink in hand
Lost my discretion
It’s not what, I usually do
Just wanna try you on
I’m curious for you
Caught my attention

I kiss you girls and I like it
The taste of you cherry chapstick
I kiss you girls because I like it
I hope my girlfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kiss you girls and I like it
I like it

No, I don’t even know your name
It doesn’t matter
Your my experimental game
Just human nature
It’s what, all good boys do
It’s how they should behave
My head gets so confused
Hard to obey

I kiss you girls and I like it
The taste of you cherry chapstick
I kiss you girls because I like it
I hope my girlfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kiss you girls and I like it
I like it

You girls are just so magical
Soft skin, red lips, so kissable
Hard to resist so touchable
Too good to deny it
Ain’t no big deal, it’s innocent

I kiss you girls and I like it
The taste of you cherry chapstick
I kiss you girls because I like it
I hope my girlfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kiss you girls and I like it
I like it

now that i’ve hung around a little more with ‘ol chromie (aka Google Chrome), there are sides of me that are not at all happy and sides of me that are.

in no particular order lets see what my pet peeves are first.

i really liked having a search bar on the right top corner of my browser (google, yahoo, etc..) that really made it very convinient to drag highlighted text straight from a page i’m in, and drop it into the search bar and then open a new tab and click enter to search for it. some might think it an edge case, but i do that ALL THE TIME.

chromie over here even though is really fast and does all this cool sand boxing and what not still takes up a hell of a lot of memory. firefox would go up to about 70-90mb if i had about 8 tabs open and was running it for about 6 hours without closing the browser, but chrome jumps up to about 70mb with just three tabs open (my blog, facebook, and gmail). not quite sure i like that.

shame on you google for downloading file links that i click on without prompting me for what i want to do with it. so here i was browsing through a site and i clicked on a link for a product thinking it would take me to its product detail page, but in reality it was a link to a page that then redirected me to the actual download of the trial version for that product and even though i did not want to download it, chrome automatically started downloading the file. for a moment i was confused and though it was somthing to do with the page so i opened up the fox and tried it on that, and sure enough the fox prompted me asking me what i wanted to do with the file. you should know better google!

i’m still bothered by the fact that the little comment links at the end of facebook’s news feeds don’t work in chrome. i really liked that feature

so now that i’ve gotten that off my chest what do i like about chrome so far:

i like their treatment of text boxes. alot of web 2.0 companies spend alot of time coding fancy js to make text boxes re-sizable etc.. chrome makes all textarea boxes in any site re-sizable

did i mention its pretty fast? well it is.

i havent crashed it yet. this is good.. really it is. i am well known for overloading my browser with so many tabs that it is always crashing on me

i like the way they took away all the menu options and replaced it with one that has everything you really need. everything else is just legacy stuff that made the whole interface clunky

well thats about all i have for now. lets see what else i fin in the coming days…

first off.. what a catchy and wonderful song. well done Jordin Sparks. i was never one to follow American Idol, but even for those who don’ follow the show, this was one artist you had to sit up and take notice of.

i’ve long argued with anything on cared to listen that singers today has lost the urge to sing and that they just sing as a job and not for the passion that they have for music. gone are the days of Tina Turner. listening to Tina you felt the music. it stirred up that rhythm in your soul. She gave it all she had when she sang.

coming back to Jordin, she is of that caliber. she feels the music she sings and you can see that passion in her voice. i absolutely love that and i hope that she continues to sing songs that allows her her explore the full spectrum of her voice and allows her to really get into the song and feel what she is singing. it truly is her strength and what puts her above other run of the mill artists in my mind.

well done Jordin and keep up the fantastic work!
