this is all good and dandy.. but the bottom line is that they are going to spend USD $500 million to “make the building green” and only save USD $4.4 million a year. so that’s going to take about 113 years to cover up the USD $500 million. these are all very rough calculations. the article does not talk about the cost of disposing of all the old appliances and fittings etc… that will come out of the building.

this just looks like a HUGE publicity stunt to use the buzz word of going green. i mean if you really want to do somethign to benifit the environment, why dont you take that USD $500, 000, 000 and do something meaningful, like plant a rain forest, or help save an animal speciece that is going extinct, or something like that. Feed some starving children in Africa and Asia.

today, that speech came into realization as President Elect, Mr. Barack Obama gave his acceptance speech in Chicago. i think the words of “I have a dream” have now been transformed into the phrase “YES WE CAN“. the dream has finally been realized.

this is enormous for all youth of color. it gives great hope to everyone that if you believe in something hard enough you can do it. yes you can!

i think this will also give black people and all people of color a much more stable identity for themselves. it gives them a new light in which to look at themselves in. i think we will start to see a new wave of youths of color. a generation of youth who will take their future more seriously and know that they can indeed achieve anything they want and that phrase of “Believe in yourself” is not just hollow advice that does not mean anything.

here’s to a new era both in the United States of America as well as in the rest of the world.

what i am more curious about is what will happen to the McCain camp? i can just imagine the thoughts going through the hierarchy of the republican camp. McCain can now retire in peace and enjoy his old age, he deserves it. he ran a good race and didn’t make the cut. the big problem here is Palin. McCain brought her in. she didn’t work. now how the hell are they going to get rid of her before she causes more embarrassment to both the republican party as well as to the entire nation of the United States of America to the rest of the world. i mean she is already the laughing stock of the international community.

what a delema….

this 30 minute video was one of the most touching, honest, and open messages i have seen in a political campaign. what am amazing production. here is a man who really seems to GET IT. seems to get what everyday people live through on a daily basis.

lets face it. if someone owns 6, 7 houses and mingles with the richest of the rich all the time, they have a different perspective to life. they don’t really understand what the middle class goes through. to them the middle class and other the rest are just statistics. the mechanisms that need to be in place for the rich to get richer and stay rich and they will do what ever it takes to make sure they can afford that 8th mansion and gold home and 60 foot yacht.

well i guess i should say that its no longer an underlying tone. the following news video shows the open ignorance of some Americans which is a direct representation of the current state of literacy and general knowledge that alot of Americans in the south are known for, as well as a glimpse into how racism still plays a very big part in America. the land of the free.

the whole video is pretty sad and funny at the same time, but there were some highlights to this that stood out more than others. we actually learnt facts that no one knew before this

* Obama is actually a DUCK.

* Palin, (who could not keep her own daughter from screwing around and getting knocked up) is filled with the holy spirit and will bring honesty and integrity to the white house. this actually reminds me of a quote from Confucius

“It is not possible for one to teach others who cannot teach his own family.”

* Obama and his wife could be anti white.

* Obama is friends with a known terrorist. wait… didn’t president bush charter a plane to fly some laden’s out of America right after 9-11, because they were close family friends of his???

lets look at the facts from the US presidential elections that is currently going on. its a pretty close race between the candidates of the democratic and republican party, but should be it?

the following is from an email i received that really opened my eyes and made me think a bit.

Subject: What if things were switched around…..think about it.
Would the country’s collective point of view be different?

Could racism be the culprit?

Ponder the following:

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?

What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?

What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?

What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?

What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five? (The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)

What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

What if Obama couldn’t read from a teleprompter?

What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?

What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem?

What if Michelle Obama’s family had made their money from beer distribution?

What if the Obamas had adopted a white child? You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

Education isn’t everything, but this is about the two highest offices in the land as well as our standing in the e world. You make the call.

There has to be a reason that, in spite of the above, we are where we are today.
Of course, there is a generous dosage of country-wide stupidity too.

all I could think of was… wow… i had never though of it from this angle before.

She had recollected on how

a welcoming ceremony had to be abandoned as sniper fire forced members of her official party to run for their lives.

“I remember landing under sniper fire,” she said.

“There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.

“But it was a moment of great pride for me.”

Unfortunately for Senator Clinton plenty of television footage has survived, showing the actual circumstances of her arrival, which were very different.

She smiled and waved as she left her aircraft and then strolled across the airport tarmac to greet a little girl who read her a poem.

She has since made the following statement:

“I did mis-speak the other day. You know this has been a very long campaign [laughs] so occasionally I am a human being like everybody else.”

I guess her “mis-speak“ing is something like her husband famous words of “I do not recall”

She calls it mis-speaking, other people might call it blatantly lying and and trying to get away with it. I don’t know.. what do you think?

“(America’s) arrogant critique on the human rights of other countries are always accompanied by a deliberate ignoring of serious human rights problems on its own territory,” said the report, released by the state Xinhua news agency.

The report stated that “The invasion of Iraq by American troops has produced the biggest human rights tragedy and the greatest humanitarian disaster in modern world.“, and that “The United States has a notorious record of trampling on the sovereignty of and violating human rights in other countries,“.

The article goes on to talk about America’s secret prisons and torture camps in Afghanistan and other places, but I’m not going to get into all that right now. You can read the article here [link ] to get all the details.

What I found to be most interesting was the last statement in the article that talks about why China was removed from the list of worst violators. It cited US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice saying that China’s willingness to renew a dialogue on human rights with the United States as a reason for its improved status.

Now correct me if I’m wrong, but when did the United States become a world authority on human rights? Current US citizens have absolutely no rights of their own under the current dictatorship democracy with wiretaps, and monitoring of all communication etc… that is going on.

Shouldn’t the United Nations or some other nongovernmental organization be in charge of deciding who is in the list of the world’s worst human rights violators?
