shame on you big time media and everyone else. picking on a 23 year old for a mistake that he has already apologized for. i mean seriously. lets look at the message your sending out to other upcoming young folks that have the potential to shine in their selected area. i mean lets take me. i’m not saying that i smoke pot, but if i had the potential to become a fantastic basket ball player. i’m going to start thinking twice if its worth it. do i really want all of you [media types] poking your noses into my business?
i’m betting that a lot of the people out there right now, criticizing Phelps has also smoked some marijuana at some point in their life.
its part of growing up. let the kid experience life and grow up. he seems to have a solid grounding and just because he smoked pot once does not mean he is a pot head. it just means he is finding his way as all kids do, and that means learning things for themselves.
please don’t get me wrong, i am in no way saying that what he did was right. all i’m saying is that by putting all this pressure on him your paving the way to failure. its the same reason that most kid star actors end up as washed up druggies. its because of all the pressure put on them. lay off.. and let the kid grow up as a regular person.
don’t you have better things to report on? you as the media are reporting on this story because you say he is a role model and on the moral issue and the message he is giving out to his fans. what about your[collective media] moral issues? i mean after all all your doing is creating a story out of nothing to fatten your wallets. i find that quite hypocritical.
Don't be a stranger. Tell me what your think and leave me a comment. Trust me, you'll feel better!

He is supposed to act and obbey the morals and ethics to some end.
Not a rockstar. An athlete, a balance minded (according to biblical beliefs)
ah yes. The shining beacon of moral behavior for society to follow…. All because he can swim really fast. What about really fast fish?
Why is it that most athletes turn to drugs to boost performance?
I think if you want someone with a balanced mind look to the guidance of monk who has reached the wondrous state of ZEN. oh wait.. I think I read somewhere that even they smoke a little pot every now and then to gain that inner state of peace…
@apelogic : i still think he needs to be given some slack. i mean he is only 23, and he has apologized for this actions. what more can we ask him to do. he cant really go back in time and change what he did now can he?
@bakamoono: didn’t native Indians smoke pot (or some hallucinogenic herb) as well. i think they called it a peace pipe..
He is sort of an “american idol” and a common weed smoker is not. I have smoked weed and never ended up on CNN (very sad situation, never had my 15 minutes)
